Training

training settingFollowing assessment, I-TECH determines what training can address existing knowledge gaps. Clinical mentoring includes a variety of training methods, including bedside training with trainees, lecturing, facilitating meaningful discussions, and giving feedback in constructive and encouraging ways. The training section provides mentors tools that can help guide training methods when working with trainees.

The Training segment of this toolkit has been broken up into three sections. The first section, Training Methods, provides information and directions for implementing various training methods, such as bedside teaching, case-based teaching, and distance learning. Communication describes strategies to effectively communicate ideas, offer feedback, and lead discussions. It also covers the most effective ways to teach adult learners. The principles taught in this section are vital to both mentors and those training to become trainers. The final section, TOT Worksheets is an excellent resource for trainers seeking to teach training and mentoring methods. The documents in this section offer a variety of activities designed to reinforce the most important training topics.
